About Us
An introduction to Chester Model Flying Club

Chester MFC is a BMFA affiliated club and hence all flying members must be BMFA members. This can be arranged by the club on joining. There are three categories of membership

  • Flying Member
  • Non-Flying Member
  • Junior Member

At present there are around 45 flying members and we have room for plenty more.
Some members do concentrate on one aspect of our sport but the majority of us fly a variety of model types. Presently there is activity in the following fields

  • R/C scale, both i/c and electric
  • R/C aerobatics, both i/c and electric
  • R/C Fun-Fly, both i/c and electric
  • R/C powered glider, electric
  • R/C thermal soaring
  • R/C slope soaring, sport and vintage
  • Indoor flying, R/C fun-fly and helicopters

Outdoor Flying Sites

The club has two outdoor flying sites. One is dedicated to silent flight only - thermal soarers and electric power - but does not have a take off strip.

The second site is smaller and open to most types of model and does have a mown take-off strip. The club operates a strict noise policy on this site and all i/c models must pass the BMFA 82dBA requirement. I/C helicopters and control-line are not permitted. Use of this site is restricted to 28 designated days per year, on weekends during the spring/summer/autumn months.

We allow guests and holiday visitors to use the fileds once we are satisfied they are competent fliers. Please contact our Membership Secretary for more details.

Indoor Flying
In the winter there are monthly flying sessions at Chester's Northgate Arena. This is a great venue for all types of indoor model. There are slots for R/C and free flight. The only restriction is a max a.u.w of 10 ounces for R/C. Visitors are very welcome. See our Indoor page for details and insurance requirements.
Beginners
If you would like to try your hand at aeromodelling might we suggest you contact the club before bending the plastic. There is a wealth of experience available and we can give advice on suitable models, motors and R/C gear.
Once you have purchased your shiny new trainer there are qualified instructors who can help set up the model and get you off the ground.
Club Room
Monthly meetings are held at our Club Room throughout the winter. We have guest speakers, demonstrations and informal evenings to chew the fat and talk aeromodelling. Members are able to fly small indoor electric helicopters.
See our Club Room page for details.
